Buddhist Pilgrimage

Lord Budha, the founder of one of the most resilient religions of the world – Buddhism – was born in Lumbini (in present day Nepal) about 2,500 years ago. He lived his early life as the Prince of Kapilvastu. He left the comforts of his Palace in search of truth and came to Vaishali, where he lived with some Jain Monks, but found their lives to be of extreme penance and austerity. He left the place and came to Rajgriha, from where he continued to Gaya (Bodh Gaya).

Here, under a Banyan tree, he received enlightenment. After enlightenment, he gave his first sermon at Sarnath near Varanasi. He then gave many sermons at Rajgriha, Vaishali and other places. He died at Kushinagar (the land of Parinirvana).
